An entrance reducer is a narrow space where guard bees keep watch for unwanted intruders. The landing board, just outside the entrance to the hive, provides a place for bees to communicate.

Entrance Reducer

The entrance reducer is a solid piece of wood or other material with a section notched out to form a doorway. It's usually used in the winter or with new colonies that need extra help protecting themselves from intruders.
